Longitudinal stem cracks in larch: what makes trees vulnerable?

چکیده
Stem cracks are becoming a major problem affecting timber quality and its economic value; their frequency may increase with increasing severity of drought stress due to climate change. Several conifer species affected, but such damage was mentioned for the first time in France hybrid larch (Larix x eurolepis) 1993. Even though link made severe some years ago, it believed, at that time, rapid growth hybrids might be cause. Our study is intended disentangle role versus appearance cracks, based on observations two field genetic trials. Summer clearly identified as main trigger longitudinal cracks. Roughly 5–15 age seems critical period during which occurrence most observed. Wood formed this corresponds juvenile wood, well-known weaknesses. Nevertheless, trees escaped cracking damage: compared these looked slender (higher HD ratio), had wider rings greater grain angle early similar wood density. Fast has often been cited enhancing crack occurrence. This conclusion corroborated by our that, within given variety or family, were consistently larger than without should qualified additional observation across varieties/families, faster growing material not necessarily prone highlighting crucial background planted.

What makes cancer stem cell markers different?
Since the cancer stem cell concept has been widely accepted, several strategies have been proposed to attack cancer stem cells (CSC). Accordingly, stem cell markers are now preferred therapeutic targets. However, the problem of tumor specificity has not disappeared but shifted to another question: how can cancer stem cells be distinguished from normal stem cells, or more specifically, how do CS...
متن کاملSelf-Adjusting Binary Search Trees: What Makes Them Tick?
Splay trees (Sleator and Tarjan [8]) satisfy the so-called access lemma. Many of the nice properties of splay trees follow from it. What makes self-adjusting binary search trees (BSTs) satisfy the access lemma? We propose a global view of BST algorithms, which allows us to identify general structural properties of algorithms that satisfy the access lemma. As an application of our techniques, we...
متن کاملWhat are Stem Cells?
Stem cells are undifferentiated self regenerating multi potential cells. There are three types of stem cells categories by the ability to form after cells and correlated with the body’s development process. Totipotent: these stem cells can form an entire organism such as fertilized egg. Ploripotent: ploripotent cells are those that can form any cell in the body but cannot form an entire organ...
